GEORGE ORWELL

A LONG-TERM PROJECT WITH TIMELESS STYLE

After being part of the five-year redesign, restoration, rebuilding and renovation of this historic building, which dates from 1769, Daniel Rotmensch Studio and its partner company CULTO Interior Design were commissioned by the buyer of the penthouse apartment to complete the decoration and styling.

Key to the project’s success was the vision shared between the client and the design team of creating a gentle contrast between the original architectural features, such as timber beams, and contemporary interior design with clean lines and curves.

Glass-panel walls maximize natural light, enhanced by unobstructive elements such as slimline wardrobes. A natural colour palette emerges from the untreated materials used: grey marble, brass, terracotta and teak, broken by select elements such as the blue Nordic-style sofa. The look and feel is of a timeless oasis in the heart of the city.

Outside, the 125 sqm terrace with is a home-within-a-home where the clients can cook, dine, relax, shower and entertain friends. Twin pergolas shelter living and dining areas, close to the chill-out zone and love nest corner, while the landscaping features tropical and native plants for year-round appeal. Rough-cut teak furniture and discrete lighting further enhance the sense of romantic intrigue.
