Mare de Déu del Remei

Layers of time and architectural styles

Built-up layers of time and assorted architectural languages are uncovered through this major redevelopment of a property located in Poble-sec that was originally constructed in 1936. With several subsequent additions the building is an eclectic mixture of different styles and materials that have been exposed and highlighted with this refurbishment project.

The arched windows and terracotta roof tile cornicing of the street façade on the exterior combined with the original stone communal stair with decorative balustrade on the inside are matched by the highly contemporary design for the apartments. Panels of the original structural brick are uncovered both within the apartments and the common areas which together with the restored structural timber beams ensure each apartment is unique in character. Pristine finishes and high tech services provide a quintessential modern day layer to the individual apartments.

Other contemporary additions include the projecting balcony on the main façade, penthouse level apartments provided with private roof gardens accessed by metal spiral stairs and a new lift and an entrance foyer that beautifully treats the various layers as a collage of the materials employed throughout.
