Mare de Déu del Remei

The story

The foundations of the property were laid in 1936. Over time and across different periods, more floors were added to the original single story, which resulted in a rather chaotic mix of structural techniques and architectural styles.

The building needed a coherent identity. Inside we combined the existing small to create seven modern living spaces of 60-90sqm.

The solution

We exposed and highlighted the original brick walls, unifying the building’s communal areas. An elevator gave each apartment increased accessibility and we restored the original stone staircase. Façade improvements resulted in a new terrace, in addition to a rooftop terrace.

We brought out the best of original elements such as wooden beams, arched windows and exposed brick walls, combining them with new parquet floorings, ceramic tiles and custom kitchens. Large new window openings in the rear facade maximized natural light.
